Personal History and the Perceptions of Others

Hi everybody my name is Prosper Apaloo and I'm a sophomore here at KSU and today I'm doing my first blog. For today, I will be comparing two items of mine to history and why they relate because I believe that there's a connection between myself and historical events so for today, I'll be your historian.

The picture above is my first object, the song "Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park. The song is monumental to me because it got me through some hard times and it boost my confident sometimes, I mean the first 35 seconds of the song got you so hyped that it makes you want to run. This song has been with my throughout 2017 because that was the year I had to move to another county for another school at first I was upset about leaving my friends behind but later on I grew to accept my new home and school, I was able to make new friends, I did well on my schoolwork and I've become more responsible. It safe to say that living in the city of Woodstock really changed me because I was surrounded by people who share the same interest in me and they accept me for who I am.

Personally I think my object is like is a little like discrimination but in a different way because at my old school, the people there couldn't accepted my for who I am and because of it I was rejected frequently even though I mean no trouble. Black people who forced to be in an environment full of white people and because of their color, they were often harassed by the opposite race and was forced to deal with it for the rest of their lives. It sort of like me because I had to deal with this for 5 months and even though I left that place years ago, I still think about that place and the people.

If I tell a historian about the significance of this photo, he/ she will understand my point because all black people ever want was to belong somewhere and feel safe because their whole life they been rejected and feel that they don't belong to that place and it makes sense.
